Have a great time during your visit to the Poconos Mountains with this list of attractions and activities. Would you like advice on where to stay while having fun in the Poconos? Here is our list of hotels and a telephone number to call and ask Poconos questions.

Snow Sports

Skiing and Snowboarding

- There are 6 formal ski resorts in the Poconos Mountain region. Camelback the largest, Blue Mountain, the most Southern, with the longest slopes and most drop (but the warmest temperature), Jack Frost, the best for intermediates, Big Boulder, which is mostly snow boarding, Shawnee, the most easternly and second largest, Skytop, the smallest and an integral part of Skytop resort, but open to the public.

Snow Tubing -

There are 4 snow tubing parks in the Poconos, the largest snow tubing park in the US is at Camelback. Shawnee ski resort has one as does Jack Frost. The largest stand alone snow tubing park is at Fernwood Resort.

Snowmobiling -

Snowmobiling can only take place when there is enough natural snow to allow the machines to glide across the snow unless a resort makes snow on enough ground to allow. The couples only resorts have snow making machines which allow this. However, they never guarantee the availability of snow .... so ... unless there is enough snow fall, do not count on snowmobiling activity.

Ice Skating -

The resort with the nicest ice skating facility is Skytop Resort. Here there is a covered pavilion dedicated to the sport. Otherwise, ice skating is usually done on frozen lakes, requiring sufficientlyn low temperature to permit it.

Family Fishing Fishing in the Poconos - There are abundant places to fish, from state park lakes, that are not overfished and have boat rentals, to hundreds of fishing streams Two American Presidents, that we know of, have spent their vacations in the Poconos Mountains fly fishing in our streams. There are fly fishing Schools, there are guided fishing tours and many lakes with large and small mouth bass. Shad, trout, rock bass, walleye, and stripers run in the Delaware River, albeit a depleted group of shad. Trout are stocked in many, many streams in the spring. Indeed.... many of us locals consider the first day of fishing season a Holiday. In years past, some of the staff of Camelback Ski Resort (and probably other resorts as well) were given the day off to go fishing.

The Crossing OutletsShopping in the Poconos is almost a sport. Since the state of Pennsylvania does not impose a sales tax on clothing, as do many other states visitors take advantage of the local shopping opportunities. Some enjoy Outlet Shopping some, flea markets, art galleries, or antique shops. Still some prefer boutiques, craft and specialty shops. Here in the Poconos, shoppers can indulge in their passion.
